Home Pan-European IMT Study to use TRAINAIR®

The recently announced VENT-HEFT study will investigate the effects of IMT on Cardiac Patients

The international randomised multi-centre study proposed by the European Association for Cardiovascular Prevention & Rehabilitation (EACPR) is about to be launched.

The multi-centre trial named "Vent-Heft" aims to investigate the additive effects of inspiratory muscle training (IMT) on whole-body endurance training cardiac rehabilitation programs for Chronic Heart Failure (CHF) patients. Two groups of patients will be studied: in Group I patients will participate in a standard whole-body endurance training program while in Group II a supervised IMT, using TRAINAIR®, will be added to standard whole-body endurance training programme.

Consistent findings of respiratory muscle fatigue with reduced inspiratory pressure-generating capacity indicate a decrease in inspiratory muscle strength in patients with CHF. Recent studies (1, 2) support the use of IMT in improving exercise capacity and in particular the symptom of dyspnoea in patients with CHF.

"EACPR appreciate the support provided by TRAINAIR® in the form of an unrestricted educational grant"
